Quality Assurance Testing

ARAMARK has routine QA testing in place to guarantee that we are
providing garments that meet the appropriate industry standards. Certificates
and test results are available to all customers.
Routine QA testing of in-process garments consists of:
- ASTM F51
- Helmke drum test
- Electrostatic testing
- Sterility testing in accordance with ANSI/AAMI/ISO 11137-1994
ASTM F51-2000 (2002)
ASTM testing monitors the nonviable particulates on processed garments. QA
technicians perform this testing throughout all processing shifts. The test
involves vacuuming nonviable surface particulates onto a filter. A trained
QA technician quantifies the particulates through microscopic examination.
The technician counts particles > 5 µm and provides a distinct fiber count.
Helmke Drum Test
ARAMARK can also perform Helmke drum testing in accordance with IEST RP-CC003.3.
This test counts submicron particles. The Helmke drum uses a laser particle
counter to quantify contamination released from a tumbling garment. This test
does not quantify fibers or large particles.
Electrostic Testing
- Surface resistivity measures the electrical resistance of a 6
sq. in. swatch of fabric (<1012 ohms). Applicable for garments that are not
inherently ESD protective.
- Sleeve to Sleeve testing (electrostatic decay) measures the time required
to drain a standard electrical charge (1000 V) through a garment. Cannot be
done on herringbone, taffeta, Tyvek®, etc.
Sterility Testing (in accordance with ANSI/AAMI/ISO 11137-1994)
ARAMARK routinely monitors the microbiological quality of garments and
performs a sub-lethal dose qualification to guarantee that irradiated
garments are sterilized at the desired sterility assurance level.
